About The Willow Birth Center
A birth center is a healthcare facility designed specifically for healthy, low-risk pregnancies. It combines the comfort of a home-like environment with professional midwifery care, offering a personalized approach to pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum care. Unlike a hospital, birth centers focus on supporting physiologic birth while providing appropriate medical monitoring and established transfer protocols if additional care becomes necessary.
Birth centers and hospitals each serve an important role in maternity care. A birth center is designed for healthy, low-risk pregnancies and emphasizes personalized care, longer prenatal appointments, freedom of movement during labor, and minimal unnecessary interventions. Hospitals provide care for both low-risk and high-risk pregnancies and have immediate access to surgical services and advanced medical interventions when needed.
Our goal is to provide the right level of care for the right pregnancy.
For healthy, low-risk pregnancies, birth centers are recognized as a safe option when appropriate screening, ongoing assessment, and transfer protocols are in place. Through out your pregnancy, our midwives continually evaluate both you and your baby’s health to ensure birth center care remains appropriate for your individual needs.
Not usually. Our licensed midwives provide comprehensive prenatal, labor, birth, postpartum, and well-woman care. If your pregnancy requires specialized care, we collaborate with obstetricians, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, or other healthcare providers to ensure you receive the care that’s best for you and your baby.
Pregnancy & Prenatal Care
We recommend scheduling your first appointment as soon as you know you’re pregnant. Early prenatal care allows us to monitor your health, confirm your pregnancy, answer your questions, and begin planning for a healthy pregnancy and birth.
Our appointments are intentionally longer than typical prenatal visits, allowing time to discuss your concerns, monitor your baby’s development, review nutrition and wellness, answer questions, and prepare you for labor, birth, breastfeeding, and newborn care. We believe education is an essential part of quality maternity care.
Absolutely. Many first-time mothers choose birth center care and have positive birth experiences. During your prenatal care, we’ll carefully evaluate your health and pregnancy toensure a birth center remains the safest option.
Labor & Birth
Yes. Our birth suites include spacious birthing tubs where eligible mothers may labor and, if appropriate, give birth. Warm water can promote relaxation, increase comfort, encourage movement, and support the natural labor process.
Yes. Many mothers enjoy the comfort of warm water during labor and later choose to deliver outside the tub. Your birth plan can remain flexible, and we’ll support you throughout your labor based on what feels best for you.
Yes. Supporting physiologic birth is one of the foundations of our care.We provide continuous labor support, comfort techniques, education, and encouragement while respecting your birth preferences and keeping safety at the center of every decision.
While we do not offer epidurals, we provide many evidence-based comfort measures, including:
- Water immersion
- Position changes and movement
- Breathing and relaxation techniques
- Massage and counter-pressure
- Birth balls and labor tools
- Continuous emotional support
Our goal is to help you feel confident, supported, and empowered throughout labor.
For most healthy, low-risk pregnancies, yes. Labor is physically demanding, and staying hydrated and nourished can help maintain energy throughout the birth process. Your midwife will discuss recommendations based on your individual situation.
Absolutely. One of the benefits of birth center care is the freedom to walk, change positions, labor in water, rest, use comfort tools, or simply follow your body’s instincts through out labor.
Yes. We proudly support qualifying mothers planning a Vaginal Birth After Cesarean(VBAC), including select candidates who have experienced multiple previous cesareans(VBAMC). During your consultation, we’ll carefully review your medical history to determine whether birth center VBAC is appropriate for your pregnancy.
Our experienced midwives provide individualized care for select breech and twin pregnancies. Every pregnancy is unique, and eligibility depends on several medical factorsthat will be discussed during your prenatal care.
We encourage you to surround yourself with the people who make you feel supported and comfortable. Partners, family members, doulas, and other approved support people are welcome to be part of your birth experience.
Many families choose to include older siblings in the birth experience. We recommend having another trusted adult present whose primary responsibility is caring for your children so you can remain focused during labor.
Safety & Emergencies
Your safety and your baby’s well-being always come first. If additional medical care becomes necessary, your midwife will coordinate your transfer to a nearby hospital, communicate directly with the receiving healthcare team, and continue supporting you throughout the transition whenever possible. Hospital transfers are part of responsible maternity care and are never considered a failure.
Yes. Our birth center is equipped with emergency medications, oxygen, newborn resuscitation equipment, and other essential supplies needed to respond to unexpected situations while arranging transfer if necessary.
After Birth
Most families return home within several hours after delivery, once both mother and baby are stable, feeding well, and meeting discharge criteria.
We encourage uninterrupted skin-to-skin contact, early bonding, and infant feeding whenever possible. Your midwife will continue monitoring both you and your baby while allowing your family time to rest and enjoy these first precious moments together.
Our care continues well beyond birth. Postpartum visits include:
- Maternal recovery assessments
- Breastfeeding support
- Newborn evaluations
- Emotional wellness check-ins
- Infant feeding guidance
- Ongoing education and support
We believe postpartum care is just as important as prenatal care.
Yes. We perform newborn assessments after birth and continue monitoring your baby’s growth, feeding, and overall well-being during postpartum visits while helping you feel confident as a new parent.
Well-Woman Care
Yes. We offer comprehensive well-woman care, including annual wellness exams, reproductive health services, family planning, preventive care, and personalized health care for women throughout every stage of life.
